👻 Devlog #1 — Welcome to the Haunted Side: Worldbuilding in Get Out of My House

Hey ghost-lovers and puzzle-solving adventurers!

Today, we’re diving into the heart (or should we say spirit?) of Get Out of My House, our cozy, spooky, and slightly chaotic ghost game about reclaiming peace, one haunted home at a time.

🎭 A World Where Ghosts Just Want to Chill

In our universe, ghosts aren’t scary — they’re misunderstood. Most of them are just trying to enjoy their afterlife in peace, whether it’s tending to their garden, finishing a composition, or reliving quiet moments in the places they once called home. Unfortunately, the living have other ideas.

From reckless teens throwing parties in abandoned cabins to curious kids sneaking into unsafe ruins, these “uninvited guests” are disturbing the dead — and not in the fun Halloween way.

That’s where you come in.

🧢 You’re Zopika, Founder of the Human Control Company™

Our protagonist Zopika is no ordinary ghost. He’s a former pest control worker who died from overwork in a company that valued profits over safety. His final wish was to build a better, safer company with his coworkers — and while life didn’t give him that chance, death did.

Now, Zopika runs the Human Control Company, a spectral service that specializes in humane (but spooky!) human removal. Think Ghostbusters, but reversed — and with more charm.

🎃 Halloween Crisis: Time to Get to Work

Zopika’s been getting a lot of calls lately — it’s Halloween night, after all. Ghost friends across the land are being invaded, and it’s your job to clear the humans out and restore each location for the Grand Ghost Festival.

Level Objective: Scare away all humans. The player cannot directly touch humans but  possess and manipulate objects to frighten them.

Secondary Objective: Rescue the ghost friends in the house by completing their missions. Each mission includes:
😱 Scaring humans in the related area
🧩 Restoring the original state of certain objects through possession and manipulation

...After humans are scared away, they may trigger doors to open along their escape route, which then —— 🏚️ Unlocks new areas in the house.

Note: The secondary objective serves the primary one. At the start of the level, ghost friends will provide a general idea of their location to guide the player’s exploration. Completing their missions will reward the player with helpful hints to assist in scaring all humans.

🏠 Locations With History and Heart

We’ve carefully built three unique levels that tell their own ghost stories:

  • The Abandoned Cabin

  • The Catacombs

  • The Castle

Each environment is more than just a backdrop — it’s a living, breathing (well, metaphorically) place shaped by the people who once lived there… and still do, in spirit.
